Monaco

I spent the day here in Monaco and just took in the sites.  There is much money in the country it is unbelievable!  It might be one of my favourite places already and I've only been here for not even a day.  Maybe some day I will have enough money to step inside the Casino Monte Carlo and do some high stakes gambling after showing up in my luxurious super yacht.  Wouldn't that be the…

Where the Rich Hang Out

When I think of Monaco, I picture the rich and famous on their luxury yachts and their expensive cars vacationing here.  Gambling, suntanning, and doing whatever else that suits their fancy.  I wasn't disappointed.  While I didn't actually see any famous people, I did see more than a fair share of Rolls-Royce, Bentleys, and Mercedes chauffeuring around their passengers to various locations. Of the location that had the most collection of luxury cars was the…

A Long Travel Day

It was yet another long day of traveling.  I am starting to get used to getting rest on the run.  On the train or at the station.  If I am tired and there is an opportunity to catch some shut eye, I'll take it.  The ride from Lyon to Marseille was a long and quiet ride.  Not many travellers that early in the morning so I slept.  However, when I arrived in Marseille, it was…

Paris to Lyon

I had to get up at 4am today so that I can catch the train.  I guess I didn't really think about my travel plans when I purchased my train tickets.  It probably wasn't the smartest thing to do but at least I made it.  I have to say though, trying to figure out how to print my ticket at Gare de Lyon was a bit tricky and I was cutting it a little close…

Da Vinci, Durer, Michelangeo, and the Ancients

The glass pyramid greeted us as we walked through the archway towards the Musée du Louvre.  The icon of ancient Egypt has been modernized with glass and steel and placed in the centre of the Parisian building by a Chinese American architect.  It is one of the world's largest museums and draws in huge crowds to see the countless pieces of priceless works of ancient artefacts and art. I met up with Leana at the…

Château de Versailles

I woke up early today super excited about the fact that I would be going to visit the Château de Versailles.  I have always wanted to see how royalty lived and I certainly wasn't disappointed in the least!  I saw the palace right when I turned the corner and there was probably still another kilometre before I could actually get to the building!  I arrived at 11am and the queue for tickets were already out…

Along the Seine

I had all day to wander along the Seine today and it was a gorgeous day out with a light breeze:  Perfect for a day of exploration.  So I decided to walk to the Eiffel Tower.  I was warned that it would be a long trek but I wasn't worried.  I knew that if I followed the river eventually I would get there. A short while after I started my trek, I saw it.  To…

Bonjour de Paris!

After all those months of preparation I am still in awe of the fact that I am walking around in the streets of Paris.  Despite the fact that my flight was delayed for more than an hour in Houston yesterday, my friend Leana's cousin, Avmeric, took us on a guided tour of the city. Our first stop was Notre Dame Cathedral.  Along the way it started to pour down rain.  It was a good thing…

George Bush Intercontinental Airport

I serious thought I was going to miss my flight this morning.  There were an incredible amount of people just trying to check in.  Only a handful of the self service kiosks were working so that didn't help matters and when I tried to use one, it said that I had to see a clerk.  I figured I had to anyways because I had a backpack to check.  Long story short, it was just one line up after the next: long waits for the check in, even longer wait for security, then having to go to overflow security (on the…
As my friends will tell you, I have a sweet tooth.  Ok perhaps one single sweet tooth might not be enough.  I have sweet teeth.  I absolutely adore sweet foods.  If I wasn't worried about getting diabetes or become overly obsess, I probably would just eat sweets for ever meal.  My all time favourite dessert is apple pie and any variation of apple pie.  Preferably with vanilla ice cream.  This is exactly what I had…
