Monterey and 17 Mile Drive

Took the day to go down to Monterey, visit the famous Monterey Bay Aquarium, and take in the sights along the 17 Mile Drive.  Take a look at what I saw!

Tillie Gort's Cafe

Being a vegetarian, and for those who are vegan, isn't always easy.  Usually restaurants will at least try to accommodate us by supplying one or two items on the menu that doesn't offend the palate too terribly.  Occasionally there are restaurants where even their salads all have chicken or prawns in them!  Is that really necessary?  It was completely the opposite today when I went to Tillie Gort's Cafe in Pacific Grove. Almost everything on…

So many people have asked me how to set up and register for an account with the "Where is Ken Today?" blog. Here are the steps: 1.  Scroll down the page and you will see a sign in area, below the sign in fields you will see "Create an account" link underneath the "Forgot your password" and "Forgot your username".  Click on that. 2.  That will bring you to a page where all the fields…

Palm Trees and California Sun

I've been staying with a friend in Almaden Valley for the last couple days, and will be for the rest of my time here in the Bay Area.  I lazed around the pool today without a plan and just reminisced about the time when I used to live in the Bay area. The palm trees, the pool, and the sun, it all makes me feel so...Californian.  But at heart, I am a Vancourverite and being…

Seeing Red at the Historic Santa Cruz Hotel

What would it be like to be like to have dinner in a 1900s brothel?  With only the letters "h" and "o" on the illuminated neon sign of the historic Santa Cruz hotel attracting hungry diners into an all red den, the Red Restaurant & Bar reminds me of such a place.  If you ever visit, this is a must go not only for the cool setting, but for the amazing menu and drinks.  While…

Santa Cruz

Santa Cruz is one of my favourite small towns along the coast.  The downtown area of Santa Cruz is basically one road and some of the main stores are on those three or four blocks.  Out of them all, the one I visit the most is Pacific Wave Surf Shop mostly because they have the best selection of t-shirts, hoodies, shorts, and toques.  While in Santa Cruz, we also drown down the pier and just…

Rock Bottom Brewery in Campbell

It was a very productive day today.  it started off very lazy but then we went out and had lunch at the Rock Bottom Brewery in Campbell.  After lunch, there was an old banana seat bicycle parked outside underneath the water tower and I couldn't resist so I sat down and took a picture with it.  I hope the owner won't mind.  Afterwards, we went to a look at a local art gallery where a…

Vancouver International Airport - YVR

I can't believe it is finally time to leave!  Now that I am at the airport it seems so surreal.  Even though I've been to this airport countless times, it seems so new to me and it is enhancing the excitement.  Soon I will be boarding my first flight to San Francisco and my backpacking adventure will begin.  There were times during the day leading to this point where I thought the whole adventure might have to be postponed since there were still last minute things to be done.  However, thankfully it was all done just in the nick of…

Tomorrow the Adventure Begins!

The movers came today.  After countless hours of stressing and panicking over whether or not I can finish packing, if the storage unit I rented will fit, everything worked out.  As it always does.  But I do have to give all the credit to my movers, they are hard working and very wonderful people.  Without them, I would have been lost and there would be no way that my house would be empty now. I…
