I had such a great time hanging out with Claire that I decided to stay an extra day!  There was a field trip to Bern scheduled for the Saturday and I decided to tag along.  I had met some of the other people on the study abroad program but I wasn't sure if the director would be happy about me joining the group for the field trip.  However, everyone were super generous and I'm pretty sure they would have even paid for my train ticket as well!

After getting to Bern, the group walked towards the Parliament building where there was also a farmer's market that day and split up for a few hours before the tour of the Parliament.  Claire, Elizabeth, Sabrina, and I browsed through the farmer's market where everything looked so delicious!  There was one place that sold all hand made spaghetti, raviolis, and tortellinis, as well as Italian cheeses.  It was so tempting to buy a few pounds of raviolis but of course then I would have to carry it and it would probably get ruined after a day in my backpack.  Instead I bought fresh eggs, at least those came in a carton.  We then found a place to have a small picnic before heading off to explore the city.

The old town of Bern is actually quite small but everything is so beautiful.  Claire and I found another small market that sold hand made things.  There were a variety of goods from scarves to hand made books to jewelry.  One of the attractions that we didn't go take a look at was the bear pit.  Maybe it is just me but I've seen plenty of bears in the past so it just wasn't particularly interesting to me.  We then met up with the rest of the class back at the Parliament for the tour which was fantastic!  Unfortunately no photos are allowed inside.
