Matteo is Ready to Ride Matteo is Ready to Ride Ken Ku

I just love going horseback riding.  I remember how excited I would get back in high school when I used to ride every weekend.  When I found out that there was a ranch here in Médano that offered trail rides, I knew that I had to go.  Then I found out more about Rebecca.  She used to be a German model and now she has retired here.  Rebecca lives in a very simple house without any electricity or even running water!

Federico, Matteo, and I went yesterday at 6:30 to do the evening ride and I couldn't wait!  The last time I was on a horse was last year in Whistler and while I had a great time, it was mostly walking and very little trotting.  I just wanted to get on a horse again and ride.  Plus I wanted to meet Rebecca, she definitely seems like an interesting person to get to know more.

When we arrived at her ranch, it was very simple but there were corn growing and chickens running around.  Plus the small barn for the horses.  We spent some time trying to figure out each person's level and then started off on our trip.  It was Matteo's first time riding so we started off at a slow pace so he could get used to being on the horse and then the feeling of trotting.  It only seemed like we were on the horses for not even 15 minutes when we did our first gallop.  After that, all I wanted to do was gallop for the rest of the ride!  However, since it was Matteo's first ride, we did wait until we walked/trotted to the beach.

At the beach, we were able to gallop for quite some distance, towards Montaña Roja and then once again in the trails at the base of the hill.  All together we rode for almost two hours and by the time we arrived back at Rebecca's ranch it was already dark.  I hope I will have time to go back for another more adventurous ride with just her and I before I leave.  We'll see how that works out since I'm leaving on Thursday morning.  It is quite crazy that I've already been here on Tenerife for three weeks already!

Good thing I made dinner before we went riding though.  We were all famished after our adventure.  The chilli I made went really well with the overall theme of the day.  Horseback riding, ranches, living out in the desert...sounds almost like the wild west to me.
