My new friends Joe and Rick from Manchester left yesterday but before they did, we went around and sampled a bunch of different local fares.  Another one of the guys I met here at the hostel, Daniel, rented a car for his stay so we all went to Médano for lunch as well as to pick up some ingredients for chilli that I was going to make later that day.  We ended up at a restaurant that Marta works at and it has we all had very delicious tapas and beer.  After lunch, we walked towards the square and each had a gelato from the Gelateria Demaestri.  This time I chose Nutella and Ferrero Rocher.  Delicious as always!

By the time we arrive back at the hostel, there was a discussion on what to do later for the evening and there was a group consensus that a group of us would go out for Lebanese food!  That sounded good to me and I would be able to see something different as well.  I did debate whether or not I wanted to go, but I'm certainly glad that I did.

The restaurant is located in Las Americas which is about 20 minutes drive from the hostel and it is a good thing that several of the guests rented cars because 11 of us decided to go!  When we arrived, there is a completely different feel to the town.  It is a lot more touristy than where I am staying: high rise hotels, strip malls, and a variety of restaurants.

Federico knew the owner of this Lebanese restaurant so he came out and greeted all of us.  We had a table out on the terrace waiting for us and we didn't even have to order.  Everything was fantastic!  There was two types of hummus, taboule, a creamy garlic dip, pitas, falafels, chicken kebabs, and beef koftas!  After dinner, there was Lebanese tea and the hooka.  It was quite surprising how relaxed one becomes after smoking from the hooka even though it is just flavoured tobacco!  I think ours was liquorice.

After dinner we took a stroll down towards Las Veronicas where there is a strip of bars and a lot of tourists visit.  I didn't like this area because for each bar there are a lot of people trying to pull business by giving you free shots or drinks.  They're almost like hustlers.  It didn't feel dangerous or unsafe in that area but I still wouldn't go there by myself.  Apparently Rick was approached by a pimp that told him if he bought two girls, he'll get the third free!

We ended our night at a bar on the beach where some people had a drink but I think by that time, most people were quite tired and we just really wanted to go back to the hostel and relax.  It had been quite an experience and especially with the shisha.
