I celebrated my 27th birthday starting right at midnight today.  It really started last night at the bar in El Médano.  Right at 12:01am someone started to sing me happy birthday.  First in English, then in German, then Spanish, Italian, French, and ended with Arabic?  That might be the longest birthday song that will be sung to me for quite some time!

The rest of the day today I went up to Los Abrigos to pick up groceries and was going to buy try and find a cupcake or something sweet but my new friend Marie was going to make me a cake!  We picked up ingredients for cream and some pound cakes and then headed back to the hostel.  Then back at the hostel, I learned how to make a delicious flavoured vinegar at dinner time.  It is so easy: garlic, onions, jalapeños in white vinegar.  Marinate for a week and that's it!  Put it on bread, use it as dressing, it is so versatile!

Making the cream was another adventure in itself.  The package directions weren't too clear.  We tried at first with just 500ml of milk but that definitely wasn't enough and it almost turned into pudding.  Good thing there was enough milk and we managed to thin out the cream and got the consistency right.  We let it set up a bit and then put in on the cakes.  It had to cool for a bit and I couldn't wait to taste it!  I was so excited when it was finally time to eat cake and it didn't take long for it all to be devoured.  This has definitely been one of my most memorable birthdays and it isn't over yet!
