I had a very memorable evening with 14 of my closest friends at the Oakwood Canadian Bistro today.  It was a laid back environment and the service was pretty good, attentive and not completely in your face.  The food was sensational!  Absolutely amazing.  I've never had such great artichokes...and the ravioli.  Amazing.  In the end, I'm just glad that it all worked out well.

Originally I had made reservations downtown at the Granville Room for its "award winning" ambiance and that it was centrally located for many of my friends.  Unfortunately, making the reservation was one of the most difficult things I've ever had to do.  I realize that while a restaurant/bar might not answer their phones during a rush but don't they know how to return a voice message?  On Sunday night I decided to use their online reservation form and by Monday I get a response asking me to please confirm the number of guests.  Fair enough.  So I confirmed.  Figuring everything was alright, I went by to check out the venue and just take a look at the "ambiance" for myself and adjust the number of guests in person and reconfirm my reservation with the General Manager.

Then late Thursday evening, I receive an email from the guest relations manager saying that there is a 'miscommunications' error on her part and that the Granville Room is actually fully booked.  Seriously?!  After the entire week of making this reservation for twenty people you're telling me that you can no longer seat my guests because of your 'miscommunications' read — incompetence = booked a larger group for dollar signs like a hooker?  Needless to say, I was less than impressed.

Fortunately, the replacement had better food, better service, answered their phones, and was gracious enough to let my guests know I was running a few minutes behind because of a car accident on the highway!
