Voted best vegetarian restaurant of Monterey Peninsula in 2011...again! Voted best vegetarian restaurant of Monterey Peninsula in 2011...again! Ken Ku

Being a vegetarian, and for those who are vegan, isn't always easy.  Usually restaurants will at least try to accommodate us by supplying one or two items on the menu that doesn't offend the palate too terribly.  Occasionally there are restaurants where even their salads all have chicken or prawns in them!  Is that really necessary?  It was completely the opposite today when I went to Tillie Gort's Cafe in Pacific Grove.

Almost everything on the menu was vegetarian or vegan friendly.  But it isn't strictly a "no meat zone", there are plenty of dishes for carnivores.  Plus you there's the option to replace/add meat to dishes that were vegetarian.  Very diplomatic if you ask me.  Tasty food that fills you up with friendly staff and it is vegetarian/vegan, what more could you ask for?  No wonder it has been nominated "Best Restaurant for Vegetarians" in the Monterey Peninsula by the Monterey County Weekly for 2011.  Just remember to save some room for pie...
