I arrived in Antwerp late today and since there really wasn't anything to do by the time I got in to town, I just headed to my hostel and checked in.  Thankfully there was internet in the room and I was able to catch up on my blogging.  I am really like where I am staying here in Antwerp.  It is a family owned hostel called Abhostel and apparently it used to be a praline factory.

The big open space downstairs offers a big communal space for people to hang out, cook meals, and spend time with each other.  The only drawback is, there weren't all that many people to hang out with.  I wasn't too worried about that since I needed some peace and quite after the few days in Amsterdam.

The owners and their kids are all really friendly and basically leave their guests to their own devices.  There are specific times for check in so make sure you arrive during those times, otherwise you will need to make arrangements with the owners ahead of time.  There is plenty of information for you on what to do around Antwerp but it is all self serve.  I like this a lot because I always do my own research before going to a new destination or while I'm there.  However, if you need someone to point out some places to start, they will be happy to do that for you as well (when you check in).

Included in the price of the stay is free breakfast but there is no time, it is when you get up you can help yourself to bread, cereal, eggs, milk, etc. once a day.  I really like how they operate on trust, it is rare to find places that still inherently trust their guests not to take advantage of them.

The rooms were also very clean and comfortable with walls that you can decorate by leaving a chalk message for them.  There are chalk boards and messages everywhere.  This is one of the most interesting hostels that I have stayed at and I'm sure that I would stay there again.

For more information go to Abhostel and check them out!
