Originally, I planned to explore the town and possibly go to the lab with Lennard and visit his facilities but in the end I decided to catch up on some sleep.  It wasn't very exciting but I suppose I needed it.  There will be plenty of time to visit the rest of Göttingen when I come back on Sunday.  Today Lennard and I will be taking a three hour road trip up to Papenburg, where we will be spending the rest of the week.

I'm looking forward to the road trip and taking a ride on the Autobahn.  Before I came to Germany, I thought the Autobahn was a speed limit free zone where people could go as fast as they wanted.  Unfortunately, this is not the case.  The speed limit on the Autobahn is actually 120 km/h although most people drive a bit faster than that.  I did notice that people only used the left lane to pass and if they did not go considerably faster than the right lane, cars behind will high beam the driver who them obediently moves out of the way.

Along the way I did notice that here in Germany they have two major oil companies that we also have back at home: Shell and Esso.  This was quite surprising to me.  We stopped at an Esso along the way and they still used the old style pumps!  That was even more surprising.  None of the fancy pay at the pump and away you go.  Here you fill up first and then pay inside.  It was also at this Esso where I was introduced to Redbull Cola.  It is Redbull's version of cola that uses kola nut and coca leaf extract to brew.  Because of the coca leaf extract ingredient, there was a ban of it here in Germany for a few months.  The reasoning was that it contained trace amounts of cocaine!

Well I had one and the only effect I felt was my tongue went numb.  I am very sensitive to any type of anesthesia and my mouth went numb.  That was the only effect that I felt from this drink, aside from the energy afterwards.  I quite like this RedBull Cola drink and apparently it is all 100% natural cola!  I'll have to take a look at it.  To find out more information on RedBull Cola go to the RedBull website.
