It was absolutely beautiful, 13°C with the sun shining, and not a cloud in the sky.  I decided to take the rest of the afternoon to go out for a walk back to the old town and take some photos of the Goethe Museum, the Jägerhof, as well as some other things along the Rhine.  I walked by several bakeries and the delicious smell of pretzels enticed me inside.  I ended up just buying two small focaccia buns and a large pretzel to snack on.  The pretzel was so filling that I didn't need to eat anything for the rest of the day until dinner time!

The rest of the day was spent just wandering around and I noticed that a lot of the Christmas Market stalls have already been set up here in Düsseldorf.  They will be opening on Thursday this week, unfortunately I will already be in Papenburg by then but I will be visiting the ones in Berlin.  The Christmas Markets is definitely one of the things I will want to check out while I'm here in Germany!  Hopefully I will have enough space in my backpack to haul everything that I buy back with me.  I guess I could always just mail some things home too!

It started to get dark by the time I was making my way back to the apartment so I decided to head back to the Jägerhof to take some long exposures of the lit up benches.  Just as I was about to finish, the back of my camera fell off!  Normally I wouldn't have minded as my work is experimental in nature, but I had a specific image in mind for what I was taking so I set up the camera again and reshot the pictures.  There are also other interesting sights along the way so I'm definitely looking forward to the results once the film is processed, especially the frames where the camera back fell!

It was still quite early by the time I got back to the neighbourhood where the apartment is so I dropped by the Rewe and picked up some ingredients for dinner.  I figured potato and leek chowder would be a good idea and the ingredients would be easy to find.  Grocery shopping in Germany is one thing that does cause quite a lot of stress though.  Everyone is extremely efficient at bagging their own groceries and if you hold up the line, the next customer will either stare you down or yell at you to move away.  I was already forewarned so I kept my shopping basket and as the items were rung through, I put them back into the basket so I can move away to the bagging counter.  I wasn't yelled at but it was still stressful.
